During the last four weeks we were conducting our Saturday program at four different villages specific to their requirements. It is a matter of precautions for the Coronavirus which gave some alarming in the last week of December and also to check the viability to involve local communities to make the program more sustainable. We could see lot of support and guidance from the local community. We have reassembled at Sailam. There are more than 60 elders have joined and shared their experiences during g these 30 days. They awaited for this day as it helped to see many more and also feel the relevance of the program. Smt Lakshmi has conducted meditation session with some stories. There is a session on why religious activities are important that too particularly for those who are Ageing. We will share balance details . Rest of the day yesterday elders deliberated on several topics and two committees were formed to plan and monitor kitchen activities and another to plan and coordinate events at Sailam. As usual hot sukkuthanni with biscuits were served and the meeting came to end. Elders returned with joy and happiness. Post the session trustees and advisory team deliberated on the activities at Sailam. Are we doing things right, a question raised by one of advisers. Another point raised was how long we can do and how we can make it sustainable. Post deliberations it was understood that(1) we are doing it more of Charitable basis. It will be for short term only as long as we get donotions including from the founders (2)to make it sustainable we need to involve communities and college students and work towards forming activities locally at V K Puram and Mannarkoil. After an year or so, V K Puram and Mannarkoil elders to have their care arrangements locally with a coordination from Vama team. Regular medical camp and tour to places of importance need to be planned at respective places. Events can be organised every day evening with students and value education can be a focus point. Vama can bring new set elders from Idaikal, Madhapuram etc in its second phase and equip the elders as was done for current elders from V K Puram and Mannarkoil. Regards. Vama Team.
