With the advancement in medical science, the life expectancy of people has increased, but the retirement age still stands at 60. Upon attaining the age of 60 years, irrespective of whether the person wishes to continue working or is capable of working, he/she has to begin a new phase of life, with no regular source of income.
In India, only 10 per cent of retired employees get some form of pension and the other 90 per cent are forced to survive on their savings which often get exhausted within a few years of retirement. Thus, post-retirement, elders often end up depending on their children or other family members for financial help.
Our empowerment programs aim to assist elders in restarting their careers.
Everyday life would be like a journey through the racks of a library with sources of great knowledge. The minds of eminent people and veterans who live under one roof, share great knowledge. The days will become pleasant sessions of the trade of knowledge.
We aim that no elder feel lonely or socially detached for their age.

I am Dhanalashmi. I completed my +2 in 2020 at Rajapalayam. After completing my schooling, due to personal reasons, I was in a situation where I had to get married immediately. After marriage, I could not continue my studies. Now, I have a six-month-old boy who needs my care, so I cannot focus on further studies.
During this time, I heard about VAMA’s course for village women on the topic of “Computer for All.” I felt this was a great opportunity for me to continue my education by joining the training at VAMA. Now, I have joined and am receiving basic computer training at VAMA. It is very comfortable for me to gain knowledge about computers. I trust that after completing my course, I will have the opportunity to find employment at a local computer center, studio, service center, or finance office, where many opportunities are available in the surrounding area.
My heartfelt thanks to VAMA Trust for the great opportunity given.
I am Soundarya Thenarasi. Currently, I am pursuing my CA Intermediate with the support of VAMA Trust, Sivasailam. After completing my college studies in B.Com, I wanted to join a professional course at an institute. However, my family is very poor. My sister and I are both girls, and my mother is unable to work due to an accident. My father is the only breadwinner in our family. When I shared my aspiration with my father, he was eager to support me, but his salary was insufficient for our family’s routine survival. He felt bad that he could not afford the registration fees for the CA Intermediate course. He suggested that I try to get a job locally and then start my professional course. However, I was confident in my aim and determined to attend the Intermediate exam first, willing to work and put in my full efforts.
I came to know that VAMA Charitable Trust, supports the educational development of village students and is particularly interested in supporting their professional course studies like CA, CMA, and CS. Kumar Sir, who handles our sessions was a Company Secretary in a well-known reputed company and comes from a village background. I got the opportunity to meet him with my father. He understood our family situation and my interest in the CA course. He agreed to support my registration fees and to continue my coaching at VAMA Trust.
The efforts of Vama to not only recreate the elders and their talents, but to enrich the next generation through the essence of it, is much appreciated. The generation connects really works there.
I am glad to see the activities being conducted at Sivasailam. Elders playing old traditional kitchen activities such as traditional way of rice grinding / chutney grinding using attukal, Ammikal” or “Mortar” etc. Recently I saw a video of Sh Ratan Tata’s initiative – new start up Goodfellows for Helping India’s Elderly people. It was very impressive and has lot of resemblance of Vama’s activities. Don’t think I am exaggerating or trying to please you. I have visited several Saturday Sangamam events during the last two years and found a meaningful impact on the elderly community. Several elders shared their experiences openly and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Vama team. Really Vama is doing much much more than just having coffee/tea with elders, Vama team’s involved approach to each and every elderly person not only helped them in several occasions but also timely cared them. We salute Vama’s dedication and commitment be it serving the food at Happy Kitchen, visiting those elders who have been served food at their door step by Murugan Annachi/ Kanthasamy Annachi, to understand the quality of service and the engagement during elders visit to Sailam on Saturday. While I understood that you are deliberating whether to continue or not beyond 100th week of Saturday Sangamam, every single elder who attended Saturday program including me humbly request the continuity of the event till 1000 week or more.
I on behalf of all those who benefited through Vama’s Elder Care program thank each and every member of Vama and its donors and well wishers for the love and kindness.

I am Lakshmi, a faculty member from The Art of Living Foundation. I feel deeply grateful to Mr. Muthikumara Swamy and the other trust members for giving me the opportunity to connect with senior citizens. During my time with them, I conducted yoga sessions, pranayama, and breathing techniques to enhance their enthusiasm and inner strength. The seniors thoroughly enjoyed these activities, and their unwavering commitment was inspiring. Their resilience was unshakeable, and their consistent attendance on Saturdays demonstrated the impact of these events. The innovative ways in which we connected people left a lasting impression on me. I sincerely hope that Vama Trust continues to grow, spreading happiness among both the elderly and the younger generation without any discrimination. Cheers to Vama Charitable Trust!
Over the past 100+ weeks, VAMA has profoundly impacted our community through its elderly care initiatives. Their Saturday programs have beautifully bridged generations, fostering meaningful connections and shared experiences. These gatherings are lively events filled with dance, music, and soulful religious bhajans that uplift spirits and bring joy to all participants. The atmosphere is always vibrant, with elders and younger members alike creating lasting memories and a sense of belonging. The ‘Happy Kitchen’ initiative ensures that no elder goes hungry, providing not just meals but also warmth and companionship. Their commitment to organizing medical camps shows how they prioritize the health and well-being of our elders. Congratulations on their dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts in making a positive impact on the lives of our elderly.
