About Us

We are pleased to introduce us as a Registered Charitable Trust formed in November 2017 with the aim to serve the society, especially the senior citizens by taking care of their age related needs and also ensuring them social security and self-respect.

The trust is managed by a team of trustees and advisors comprising technocrats, educationists, administrators, and philanthropists. Their common interest towards serving aged who need support & also in the uplift of the downtrodden has made them join together to form the trust.

Vama Charitable Trust (Vama Trust / Vama) is formed for serving the elders, by way of giving and caring. Vama’s mission is to enhance the socio-economic status of the village community through interventions in health, education, social welfare and livelihood.

We bring to the elderly people a sustainable ecosystem by providing all-inclusive support to them in their own homes.

The Trust is caring those lonely and socially isolated old people who have no source of income. These elders are being provided with necessary financial support for their survival and also basic necessary comforts like cots, mattresses, fans etc., at their dwelling places. They are also being provided with free medicines recommended at the periodical health camps and also present them with new clothes. To remove some of their financial isolation, lunch/dinner is provided to elders who have no means of income and to remove social isolation, our trust organizes Monthly/periodical gatherings of elders to connect with their peer group and young generation (school and college students), short stay arrangements for those elders who need such support due to their family emergencies, post medical treatments care and family / friends gatherings. During monthly/periodical gatherings, our support includes medical camp, connecting generations through several fun based activities and advocacy support for various issues like insurance claim, Government schemes, importance of updating KYC and knowledge on cyber-crimes and other social services.

Caring for Our Elders

As we have adequate infrastructure to cater the requirement of short stay, we have added our service of arranging short stay for elders during their family emergencies and postal medical treatment care requirements.  We also started connecting elders virtually through our VIRTUAL SANGAMAM to enable more elders to reduce their social isolation. Vama is also involved in promotion of education, improving skills including imparting computer literacy skills among the socially and economically disadvantaged children, students in the rural parts of southern Tamil Nadu – especially Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Tenkasi and Nargarkoil areas. In villages, Vama sets up Digital Facilitation Centres / Community Technology Labs, Climate Clubs, Reading Clubs for preparing the rural children in the grades VIII and above.  Our Learning centers/Clubs also equip school dropouts to continue education and bring them back into the fold of education.

There is a pressing need as well as ample opportunities emerging for Elders especially, to secure jobs that are flexible in timing, offers suitable work environment and utilizes their skills and experience which would be advantageous to various businesses.

Elders prefer to engage in gainful employment whether in regular jobs or self-employment as part of active ageing and to increase their financial sources for subsistence.

There are a good number of elderly people particularly between the age of 60 to 70 who do look for an avocation beyond formal age of retirement.

Vama proposes to equip elders who still aspire to work beyond their age, thereby enabling them pursue their passion and ensuring senior citizens age with a radiant grace and venerable dignity.  Our READING LITERACY / CLIMATE LITERACY programs would enable them to participate in our school / college program and equip students with their knowledge, expertise and experience in enhancing the skills of students.

Vama supports Elders to undertake certain activities in which they have the experience and expertise.  Such endeavour will provide some earnings to them which be shared partly to the corpus of the Trust to cater its need in future.
