Saturday Milan (சனிக்கிழமை சங்கமம்) - 124

We are happy to share the highlights of the 125th week of Saturday Sangamam at VAMA. This week, we celebrated International Meditation Day. Our Art of Living teacher, Mrs. Lakshmi, conducted a meditation session and explained the importance of meditation in bringing peace of mind and relaxation to the body. She also provided practical guidance to the participants.

The session was attended by 40 students from Athrikal School and 68 elders from various places, including VK Puram, Thirumalai Puram, Kalyani Puram, and Alwarkurichy, bringing the total number of participants to over 100.

Mr. Rajendran and his team from Ambai participated for the first time this week. They appreciated VAMA’s activities and the support extended to the elders.

This week, we dedicated our prayers to two souls, the late husbands of our beneficiaries, Mrs. Gomathiammal and Mrs. Eswarathammal. Their husbands passed away this week due to health issues. Our elders visited their homes to offer condolences and prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace.

After lunch, many of the elders traveled to Mannarkoil to join the last rites of Eswarathammal’s husband.

VAMA elders showcased again their value of being with others in their difficult times.

The session included individual interactions where the team understood the family situations of the elders and assessed their health care practices at home. The team emphasized the importance of self-care, stating that individuals are the primary caregivers for their own health. They encouraged the elders to dedicate time daily to physical and mental well-being through simple exercises.

A significant portion of the session addressed common concerns such as knee pain, back pain, and joint discomfort. The Heartfulness team suggested regular yoga and meditation (“Thiyanam”) as effective methods for relieving pain and promoting peace of mind. The elders actively participated in the Thiyanam session and reported feeling relaxed and rejuvenated afterward.

Following the yoga and meditation session, the elders enjoyed a nutritious lunch consisting of healthy vegetables. The day concluded on a joyful note as health care kits were distributed to the elders. This gesture aimed to empower them with confidence to manage their health independently.

The session was a meaningful step in promoting holistic health and well-being among the elders, leaving them motivated and content.
