We are happy to share the details about the 127th week of Sangamam at VAMA. This week, we successfully conducted a medical camp with the support of Kadayam Government Hospital. More than 110 elders from various locations, including VK Puram, Thirumalaipuram, Mannarkoil, Pappakudi, Alwai, Kadayam, Agasthiyarpatty, Kalyanipuram, and Puthukudiyiruppu, participated in the event.
The program commenced with a Ganapathy Slokam, sung by Mrs. Esakkiyammal. Following the prayer, a brief yoga session was led by Ms. Karthika. Simultaneously, a six-member team from Kadayam Government Hospital began health checkups for the elders. They conducted tests for sugar levels, blood pressure, and tuberculosis using a mobile medical unit. Additionally, an X-ray scan was performed to assess lung health. The team provided advice on lung care during the cold season, emphasizing the importance of drinking warm water and eating healthy food. Over 100 elders were diagnosed, and 60 underwent detailed scans.
During the camp, the elders were engaged with small games and activities, including a ball game. A unique session called Kathai Kathaiyam Karanamam was organized, where elders shared fascinating stories and the historical significance of their villages. For instance, the story of Erithu Aadkondvar at Kailasanathar Temple, the origin of the name Ambasamudram (Ambal Samuthiram), and the history behind Thirunelveli’s name were shared. Elders also reminisced about their childhood experiences, making the session truly memorable.
A delicious lunch was served, including rice, moor kulambu, cabbage poriyal, chow chow kootu, and rasam. After lunch, the elders enthusiastically participated in the Pattukku Pattu competition, showcasing their talent in singing. The VAMA team extended heartfelt thanks to the Kadayam Government Hospital team for their support.
The day concluded with the elders returning home filled with joy and sweet memories of the program at VAMA.
