Saturday Milan (சனிக்கிழமை சங்கமம்) - 134

We are happy to share the success of the 134th Sangamam at VAMA. This week, we celebrated Women’s Day with our elders, and many new women from various places joined us for the event. More than 80 elders actively participated in this week’s Sangamam.

We had the honor of inviting Ms. Srirengam, Secretary of Gandhigram Avvai Ashram Trust, and Thiyagi Mr. Lakshmi Kandhan Bharathy (Retd. IAS) as our special guests. The event commenced with a soulful prayer song by Pushpam Amma.

Ms. Srirengam delivered an inspiring speech on women’s freedom and the strength of women from historical times. Our team organized various fun games and competitions for the elders, including Matching Colors and Kulaikulaiya Munthrikka, which were particularly enjoyable and well-received.

Mr. Lakshmi Kandhan Bharathy spoke about women’s safety, self-security, and the importance of education in their lives. Our trustee, Mr. Kumar, extended his heartfelt wishes to all the elders and emphasized the need for elders to preserve and pass on their skills to the younger generation.

One of our new beneficiaries, Mrs. Chellammal Sailappan from Alwarkurichy, shared her past experiences. While speaking, she said, “As a woman, I completed my 10th standard with good marks in my early years, but I couldn’t pursue further studies or a job. So, I made a firm decision to provide good education and support to my sons. Today, both of them have completed their master’s degrees and are earning well in reputed companies.”

Similarly, many other women shared their life experiences and the challenges they faced

The elders also exchanged their wishes with one another. A delicious lunch was served, consisting of rice, sambar, pachadi, bottle gourd kootu, buttermilk, and sweet.

After lunch, Mr. Kumar encouraged the elders to engage in activities of their interest within the campus. He suggested that those interested could participate in traditional games, drawing, cooking, or any other activity they enjoy, based on their age and ability. Following this discussion, we served malt, and the gathering concluded on a joyful note.

This week’s Sangamam was entirely dedicated to celebrating women and their contributions to society, making it a memorable event for all.
