Saturday Milan (சனிக்கிழமை சங்கமம்) - 111

The 111th week of the Sailathil Saturday Sangamam event was held on 14th September 2024, centered around the theme of “Connecting Generations.” The event saw participation from over 130 elders from various areas, including VK Puram, Mannarkovil, Alwarkurichy, Kadayam, Pappakudi, Thirumalaipuram, and Pottalputhur.

The Sangamam commenced at 10:00 A.M. with a soulful prayer song performed by Mrs. Puspam, whose melodious voice captivated everyone. Following this, the elders enthusiastically participated in a yoga session, engaging their minds and bodies. A group of college students graciously volunteered this week, assisting in organizing activities and creating a vibrant atmosphere of interaction between the elders and the younger generation.

As part of the program, the students organized various activities, where they interacted with the elders, gathering insights into their experiences and interests, especially reminiscing about their childhoods. The discussions included a thought-provoking debate on whether family relations or friendships play a more significant role in life. The elders overwhelmingly supported the value of relationships, while the students expressed that friendships could be life’s greatest well-wishers.

One of the highlights of the day was the storytelling session, where Mrs. Sivagamiyammal narrated the story of Kannappan Nayanar, eloquently explaining its spiritual significance and shedding light on the lives of the Nayanmars.

The Pappakudi team members performed remarkably well in various games organized during the event. Activities included ball games, balloon toss, paper cup games, and the traditional game “Pattukku Pattu Potty,” which brought great joy to the elders. These games were not only entertaining but also provided valuable physical exercise, engaging different parts of the body.

For entertainment, the elders sang their favorite songs and exchanged riddles, adding to the lively atmosphere. The event successfully blended activities for both elders and students, creating a fulfilling experience for all involved.

The lunch menu included rice with moar kulambu, cabbage poriyal, coconut chutney, coconut rice, and rasam. The elders thoroughly enjoyed the delicious and wholesome meal. Following lunch, the professional course students performed a lively dance to the song “Jimikki Kammal,” which was met with enthusiastic clapping and cheering from the elders.all elders appreciated all students
The elders expressed their heartfelt appreciation to all the students for their participation and efforts. The students’ performances, interactions, and enthusiasm brought immense joy and created a wonderful bond between the generations. The event concluded with tea and biscuits, and the elders were escorted home, carrying with them cherished memories of a day filled with joy, laughter, and meaningful interactions.
