We are delighted to share the highlights of this 113th week’s Saturday Sangamam, held on 28/09/2024 at the Angala Parameshwari Koil Mandapam in Kallidaikurichy. This event was supported by Mr. Sathasivam, a retired Tahsildar and a well-wisher of our VAMA Trust. As planned by our Managing Trustee , this week’s gathering was organized around the hub-and-spoke model of VAMA’s activities. We were pleased to welcome 15 new local participants to the Sangamam.

Our regular beneficiaries from Kallidaikurichy, Ambasamudram, Mannarkoil, Thirumalaipuram, VK Puram, Alwarkurichy and Kalyanipuram actively participated, with over 130 elders in attendance.

The event was presided over by our freedom fighter Shri . Lakshmikandhan Bharathy , and Trustee Mr. Kumar. The program commenced with a yoga session led by Mrs. Lakshmi from Tirunelveli. Following this, Mr. Lakshmanan, a retired teacher, gave a speech on Mahatma Gandhi’s sacrifice for our nation’s freedom.

Mr. Madasamy shared insightful stories about life’s value, encouraging elders to live with peace and positivity. He emphasized the importance of living stress-free and embracing happiness at every stage of life.

In his address, shri Lakshmi kandan Bharathy provided practical advice on elder care, highlighting the importance of maintaining good health through simple lifestyle changes. He stressed the benefits of drinking water, eating vegetables, walking daily, and maintaining a balanced diet within a modest budget. He also underscored the value of seasonal fruits, particularly guavas, for daily nutrition.

Since both Gandhi Jayanti and International Day of Older Persons are approaching, all the speakers covered Gandhian principles and the importance of caring for the elderly. Mrs. Subbulakshmi, aged 85, impressed the audience with her rendition of “Kuyil Pattu” from the Thiruvasagam, her voice as youthful as ever.

Mr. Subbiah, a retired Sub-Inspector of Police, appreciated VAMA team”s tireless service to the community and elders

The program concluded with a delicious lunch featuring rice, sambar, pumpkin kootu, cabbage poriyal, rasam, and more. The meal was enjoyed by all participants.

After lunch, the elders proceeded to visit the Mannarkoil Perumal Temple, as it was Purattasi Saturday. VAMA Trust organized transportation to and from the temple, and the elders expressed their heartfelt thanks to trustee for facilitating this spiritual outing.

The event ended on a joyous note, with everyone leaving with happiness and gratitude
