FULL MOON DAY

We are glad to share about the full moon day that we organized the gathering at our Sailam on 17th octoberil.

More than 15 local elders participated, and our trustee, Mr. Muthukumarasamy joined with his family. Mr. Madasamy, a retired Headmaster of Sree Paramakalyani High School, Alwarkurichi, also graced the occasion and shared memories from his past.

In his talk, Mr. Madasamy reminisced about his childhood, highlighting the generosity and sense of community that elders had during that time. He fondly recalled how, during moonlit dinners, families would share their venjanam (curry)
with neighbors. He emphasized the tradition of pillai soru (food for children) and how mindfully it was shared among children, a practice deeply rooted in their culture.

The gathering became even more engaging when the elders shared their own childhood memories of mealtime, recalling the simple yet meaningful dinners they enjoyed. They also discussed what their typical dinner routines would be like if they weren’t attending VAMA’s gatherings, which sparked an interesting and heartfelt conversation.

All the elders expressed their gratitude to VAMA for creating this opportunity to connect, especially for helping them break the isolation of the night and offering the joy of sharing a meal together. To surprise elders with a new dish from their routine idly/dosa, our Happy Kitchen Team prepared hot Adai. Adai is a healthy, protein rich and nutrient dense lentil crepe of our place. It is super flavourful delicious and served with a chutney. Elders enjoyed the adai and they were dropped at their residence post dinner.
