Saturday Milan (சனிக்கிழமை சங்கமம்) - 146

We are happy to share the highlights of the 146th week of Sangamam at Sailam.

This week, we had the opportunity to spend quality time with Dr. Krishnamoorthy, a remarkable individual who has completed 52 certifications and is a certified counsellor and psychologist. His presence and insights made this week’s gathering truly special.

Despite continuous rain in some areas, more than 75 elders from various locations were able to attend and enjoy the session. The day was filled with the pleasant drizzle of the Tenkasi monsoon, adding a serene charm to the event. Some elders were unable to attend due to continuous raining in their locality.

The session began with elders introducing themselves — sharing their names, family backgrounds, and current situations at home. Many spoke about their relationships with their sons and daughters, expressing both joyful and emotional stories.

During the feedback session, elders shared heartfelt words about VAMA. Many said they have been attending Sangamam for the past two years and that Saturdays at VAMA have become an essential part of their lives. One of the elders, Mr Rengasamy, shared a deeply emotional happenings at his home of loosing his two  grown daughters within a span of 8 months — both were very young and passed away due to diabetes and low blood pressure. But he finds comfort and strength at VAMA. When he comes here, he feels like he is with his own family — daughters, mother, brothers and sisters.”

Another elderly woman shared, “VAMA feels like my maternal home. Everyone here is so kind, and our trustee, Mr Kumar, takes such good care of us. We feel truly valued and loved.”

Following these touching moments, Dr. Krishnamoorthy began his session, sharing his experience working with elders. He spoke about the role of elders in their post-retirement life, how they can contribute to family harmony, and how to build meaningful relationships with grandchildren. His talk was filled with stories, examples, and wisdom — making it a memorable session for all participants. He touched upon Self respect of elders,
Social patenting, need of  Sharing Experience of their age and duty of elders to care the family members.

After the session, lunch was served, which included rice, sambar, thudiyangai kootu, green banana puttu, and buttermilk. Everyone appreciated the delicious food and extended their thanks to the dedicated kitchen team – Kaipakkuvam.

Post-lunch, the elders enjoyed anthakshari, and our guest Dr.. Krishnamoorthy also participated and shared his closing thoughts. The program concluded with fond memories and smiles all around.
