Saturday Milan (சனிக்கிழமை சங்கமம்) - 151

The 151st Saturday Sangamam was joyfully celebrated on Saturday, 27th September 2025, at Tamil Vazharchi Panpattu Maiyaam, NGO Colony, Tirunelveli, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Launched on 22nd July 2022, Saturday Sangamam recently marked a major milestone with its 150th gathering on 20th September 2025. Over these 150 editions, the Sangamam has become a cherished platform that bridges generations—strengthening social and emotional bonds, nurturing values among youngsters, and creating meaningful opportunities for elders to remain connected with the community.

The initiative has played a vital role in reducing social isolation among elders from Alwarkurichi, Sivasailam, Ambasamudram, V.K. Puram, Papakudi, and several other villages. Kudos to the VAMA Team for their unwavering spirit and energy in sustaining this initiative week after week.

After the grand 100th week celebration on 15th June 2024, the frequency of Sangamam was thoughtfully shifted from weekly to fortnightly. This change reflected the evolving circumstances of participants—many elders were reunited with their families, several regained emotional strength, and sadly, a few members were no longer with us.

During the 150th Sangamam, it was resolved that the programme should spread beyond Sivasailam and nearby villages, extending to Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Rajapalayam, and Tuticorin. The 151st edition at Tirunelveli marked the first step of this expansion journey.
With the able leadership of Shri Kannaya, Correspondent, Chitharkal Kottam Academy, Papanasam, the event unfolded beautifully. The highlight of the day included:
• Shri G. Krishnamoorthy, renowned story and dialogue writer, stage actor, and director, presented a nostalgic stand-up comedy performance reminiscent of the 1990s.
• Shri Thirupathi Venkatachalapathi, ISKCON devotee, shared moving reflections about elders, drawing from his personal memories of not being able to serve his father while working abroad.
• A nine-member women’s team from “Nangooram Namma Veedu,” Reddiyarpatti, Tirunelveli, enriched the gathering by sharing their community living experiences.
• Enthusiastic participation came from elders of KTC Nagar, Thirumal Nagar, NGO Colony, Thatchanallur, including Ms. Jayalakshmi, Mr. Krishnan, Mr. Gobi, and others.
The VAMA Team also extended a warm invitation to all elders for the upcoming Medical Camp at Sivasailam on 4th October 2025, supported by the Dr. V.S. Natarajan Geriatric Foundation and Tenkasi Moothor Nala Sangam.

Adding to the cultural flavour, Mrs. Gomathi, a retired teacher accompanied by her 86-year-old spouse, enthralled the gathering with a soulful rendition of “Ovvoru Pookalume” from Autograph. Another elder followed with a timeless classic, filling the hall with nostalgia. Both performances were met with warm applause and heartfelt appreciation.

Although some planned activities had to be postponed due to time constraints, the camaraderie continued over a simple yet delicious lunch of sambar rice, curd rice, pickles, and papads hosted by VAMA Trust.
The day concluded with warm fellowship, meaningful conversations, and a shared sense of gratitude towards the VAMA Team for carrying forward this noble initiative.
