SATURDAY MILAN (சனிக்கிழமை சங்கமம்) - 161

We are pleased to share the report of the 161st week of Sangamam, held on 4th January, which was organized with New Year celebrations and cultural engagement for elders.

Despite the auspicious month of Margazhi and the observance of Thiruvathirai, elders from various locations actively participated in the program. Many of them attended the Thiruvathirai pooja at Sivasailanathar Temple, and in addition, a special pooja was arranged at our Trust office at Soundharya Ganapathy, where kali prasadam was offered to all participants.

The program began with a soulful Ganapathy prayer song rendered by Mrs. Pushpam, creating a devotional and positive atmosphere. This was followed by simple physical activities for elders, guided by Mr. Krishnamoorthi and the Hearfulness trainers, focusing on mobility, relaxation, and overall well-being.

After the exercise session, our Trustee Mr. Muthukumarasamy addressed the gathering and oriented the elders on the concept of “Thodu Sigichai” and the significance of Sitharkal meditation practices, explaining their benefits for physical, mental, and spiritual wellness. The session was interactive, with elders actively listening, sharing their thoughts, and raising questions, which were patiently addressed by the Trustee.

To promote social bonding, small interactive activities were conducted where elders introduced their friends and shared their understanding of each other within a short time. Many elders spoke affectionately about their neighbours and shared their life experiences, strengthening the sense of community.

A nutritious and traditional lunch was served to all participants, which included rice, sambar, banana porridge, chow-chow kootu, rasam, buttermilk, and sweets. The meal was well received and enjoyed by all elders.

After lunch, the program continued with fun games and engaging sessions, during which elders joyfully shared their childhood memories, stories of friendship, and experiences of caring and being cared for by people of their own age group in their neighbourhoods.

The program concluded on a cheerful and heartwarming note, with all elders dispersing with sweet memories, renewed energy, and a strong sense of togetherness, making the 161st week of Sangamam a truly meaningful and memorable gathering.
