79th week and 80th week of Saturday Sangamam were held on 20th January and 27th January 2024
On 20th January it was drizzling and the last night was raining. Connecting Generation program was planned and 11 students from Sree Paramakalyani College came and spent time with elders. They planned various games such as Lemon Spoon race, Goal setting – Hit the plastic glasses games was targeted through ball. Elders also played quiz and played passing the ball with music.
Very good lunch was served on the occasion of celebrating birthday of Sh Sankaranarayan sir. His younger son, who is a working as Health Inspector along with his wife and son came from V K Puram and joined the event. Mr Ganapathi Sankar briefed the importance of caring elders and their health. He gave some tips on food patterns and precautions to live healthy.
Rice, Sodhi, Potato curry, injee thuvaiyal and payasam and appalam were served. Both Mrs and Mr Ganapathi Sankar served food to all elders and felt very good to be there to celebrate his father’s birthday.
On 27th January the concept was “Preserve the Talent”.
Elders were given opportunities to show cause their culinary skills. Around 14 grand Maas participated and prepared Sweet Kulukattai, Suchiyam, Avval Uppuma and quick pakora. Elders appreciated the participation and the Kai Pakkuvam of elders.
Vama team shared that culinary skills training has started 3 months back and 4 students from Dr Soundaram Special School and three normal children are participating the training. Elders like Kannamma Akka, Selvi Akka and coordinator Ma Annalakshmi supported the candidates to understand the concept of cooking and hygiene approaches.
As a next step now VAMA CAFE – taste of fusion will be established and snack and food will be cooked at Happy Kitchen and sold at Alwarkurichi and Sivasailam. Vama team requested elders as giving back to the society / Vama, all should participate in one of three activities involved in Vama Cafe viz (1) preparing food (2) supporting at sales outlets and (3) managing the planning, preparation, sales and accounting of expenses and enhance the hands on training to candidates based on the needs in the field.
Elders felt happy of the happening at Vama and celebrating 80th Week of Saturday Sangamam.
Elders enjoyed snack’s prepared by their colleagues Ali g with tea and left for home around 4.30 pm.
